Head-on Vehicle Collision with Rescue

At approximately 0730 hrs, Medic 39, Station 3 and Rescue Squad 9 were alerted for a multi-car vehicle collision involving a car head-on with a trash truck on Rt. 27 just south of Westminster.

Units arrived on location and confirmed one patient heavily trapped. Crews quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle and extricating the patient. The patient was extricated from the vehicle about 30 minutes after dispatch. Medic units from Westminster, Reese, New Windsor, and Winfield handled patient care.

A hazardous materials team was needed for a large hydraulic fluid leak from the trash truck.

Units operated on the scene for approximately 1 hour.
