On June 9, 2022, at 8:58 PM, the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company (ReeseVFC) was alerted for a 9-13 box vehicle collision (VC)/rescue with entrapment in the 2100 block of Carrollton Road in our first due area. Medic 9-8 was the first emergency vehicle to respond to this call from ReeseVFC via eastbound Rt. 140.

Rescue Squad 9 responding with a crew of 5, traveled across eastbound Rt. 140 towards Reese Rd and was struck in the front passenger (Officer Seat) door of the vehicle while in the roadway intersection by a 2018 Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound on Rt. 140.

Chief 9-1 was riding in the officer’s seat of the Rescue Squad and immediately called in a separate emergency incident at 9:02 PM, reporting a vehicle collision with rescue and entrapment involving a departmental vehicle in the westbound lanes of Rt. 140 at Reese Road in front of the firehouse.

Chief 9-1, also called for additional manpower to assist with the extrication of the driver of the Toyota and to assist Reese members inside the Rescue Squad.

Being that it was Bingo night, Reese VFC was fortunate to have many volunteers at the Station who immediately responded to the incident with ReeseVFC Engine Tanker 9-4 and Ambulance 9-9; and alerted surrounding jurisdictions to assist Engine 9-1 and Medic 9-8 with the original emergency incident (VC on Carrollton Road) and the new incident at Rt. 140 & Reese Rd.

A few minutes later, Chief 9 arrived on the scene of the Reese Rd incident and took command, where MSP Aviation was requested. A patient was extricated from the driver’s side of the Toyota and it was deemed necessary for them to be transported by Medic 3-8 (Westminster) to Shock Trauma due to the delayed arrival time of MSP Aviation.

Three Reese VFC staff/volunteers went to Carroll Hospital Center (two transported by Medics) with non-life-threatening injuries.

Westbound Rt. 140 was closed for several hours and traffic was re-routed down Bethel Road and Old Westminster Pike. Normal traffic resumed on westbound Rt. 140 after 11:30 PM.

This matter is under investigation by Maryland State Police, Westminster Barrack.
