Never Forget

In May of 1982 a committee was set up to look into purchasing the company's first ambulance. The company also started running the utility on medical calls in Reese's first due area. The company decided to purchase its first ambulance in July of 1983. This milestone was reached on October 1 as the new ambulance was placed into service and designated as Ambulance 99. In 1984 Reese completed its first year providing ambulance service to the community. This service marked the beginning of a new era, one that would live on and grow to the present day.

The best known year for Advance Life Support came to be in 1989. In May of 1989 the company accepted a Lifepack 5 cardiac monitor that was graciously donated by the Ladies Auxiliary. At this time Ambulance 99 was upgraded to medic unit status.

Another memorable year was 1993. After many meetings and a lot of planning "Rescue 9" came to pass. The company ordered a 1993 International Navistar four door cab and chassis with a 14 foot walk-a-round rescue body and accessories.

In 1995 the City of Baltimore, and we as Marylanders, were privileged to be visited by the Pope. When Baltimore City requested assistance from surrounding jurisdictions for the visit, the members of Reese proved to be a model for volunteerism. Utility 9 with emergency medical personnel and Engine 91 with suppression personnel both converged to Baltimore for the big day. The day was long and hot and the company was proud of their members who gave their time to lend a helping hand to the City of Baltimore and the countless people who appeared for the visit. Engine 91 was honored to be chosen to participate in the helicopter landing site detail at St. Mary's Seminary when the Pope arrived.

As we head into the future, we, as members of Reese and the other 13 companies in the county will no doubt be faced with many obstacles and challenges. What insures that these challenges will be met head on, and with success, is the unwavering dedication and commitment of the volunteers of Carroll County. We, at Reese, are proud to be members of this "family" of volunteers and would like to thank all those who work with us to make it all happen. We would especially like to thank our families, who without their incredible understanding we would be unable to give the time needed in today's age of shrinking numbers of volunteers.
