| Yesterday’s severe storms brought a busy period of emergency responses throughout the Westminster area, including multiple incidents believed to have been caused by lightning.
Engine 91, Rescue Squad 9 and Medic 98 responded to the 800 block of Count Flame Court in Westminster to assist the Westminster Fire Department with a working house fire. The residence had reportedly been struck by lightning, sparking a fire in the attic area. Crews operated on the scene alongside Westminster and other mutual-aid companies to assist with fire suppression and related operations.
With numerous fire department units committed to multiple working incidents throughout Carroll County, Chief 9-1 & Ambulance 99 remained available and provided coverage for additional emergency calls.
During this period, Chief 9-1 and Ambulance 99 assisted with two additional incidents, including a tractor-trailer that struck a house on Littlestown Pike and another residence struck by lightning on Glen Drive in Westminster.
The afternoon and evening demonstrated how quickly severe thunderstorms can generate multiple emergencies across the county at the same time. Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company personnel worked alongside our neighboring departments to ensure resources remained available both at major incidents and for additional calls for service.
