🚒 After the Fire: Turning Tragedy Into Prevention

Last evening, members of the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company, alongside our Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS career personnel, members of the Westminster Fire Department, and Battalion Chief Pierson, conducted an “After the Fire” outreach following last week’s fatal house fire on Old Westminster Pike.

Crews went door-to-door in the 1600–1700 block of Old Westminster Pike, speaking directly with residents about home fire safety and the importance of having properly installed and working smoke alarms.

At each home, members asked residents about their smoke alarms, answered fire safety questions, and offered free smoke alarms to homeowners who needed them.

The response from our neighbors was incredibly positive. We appreciate everyone who opened their doors, took a few minutes to talk with us, asked questions, and allowed our personnel the opportunity to share potentially lifesaving information.

While we are always ready to respond when an emergency occurs, some of the most important work we can do happens before the call ever comes. Prevention, education, and face-to-face conversations with the people we serve are an important part of our mission.

Additional fire safety and educational walks are being planned for the near future as we continue working to bring these conversations and resources directly to our neighbors. Please watch our page for information about future outreach opportunities.

We are grateful to the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS and the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association for their continued support of fire prevention efforts like this one. We are also thankful for the partnership among the volunteer and career personnel who came together for this outreach.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by last week’s fire. We hope that by taking what happened and using it as an opportunity to educate, provide resources, and connect with our neighbors, we can help prevent another tragedy.

Working smoke alarms save lives. Please take a few minutes today to make sure yours are working. ❤️
