Never Forget

🚒🔥October is Fire Prevention Month

By Public Information Officer Cindy Flohr
October 9, 2026

This week, October 4–10, we join fire departments across the country in recognizing National Fire Prevention Week, a time dedicated to educating our neighbors, raising awareness, and helping prevent fires before they start.

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” reminds us that many of the devices we use every day—from cell phones and laptops to power tools and e-bikes—contain rechargeable batteries that require proper care.

🏠 A few simple steps can make a big difference:

🔋 Use chargers recommended by the device manufacturer and avoid charging devices on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.

🚨 Test your smoke alarms regularly and make sure every level of your home has working alarms.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Develop and practice a home fire escape plan with everyone in your household.

🚪 Know two ways out of every room and establish a safe meeting place outside.

❤️ At Reese Volunteer Fire Company, protecting our neighbors goes beyond responding when an emergency occurs. Education, awareness, and prevention are equally important parts of serving our community.

Throughout October, we encourage you to take a few moments to look around your home, talk with your family, and make fire safety a priority.

Because the best fire is the one that never starts.

Stay safe, Reese community!
